For the first time, the EDVARD Prize is being awarded in the traditional music category. The nominees are Kristin Mellem/Ingor Antte Ailu Gaup, Jorun Marie Kvernberg and Steinar Ofsdal.
/ 15/08/2005 / codexThe prize is awarded during ÁRINN – International Festival for Traditional Folk Music and Folk Dance the first weekend in September. The EDVARD Prize, named after Edvard Grieg, is a prize awarded by TONO to composers and songwriters for outstanding musical works. The winner will receive a trophy and 40.000 kroner. During the autumn and winter, TONO will award a total of 5 EDVARD Prizes in different categories. The nominated works in the traditional music category are: About the nomination of the work, the jury says: "A work that takes a newly written yoik and lets it expand into a symphonic form, full of nature associations, melodic ramifications and an irrepressible pulsating undertone that grabs hold of the spine and leaves a feeling that this is essential."
