The EDVARD Prize, named after Edvard Grieg, is an award that TONO awards to composers for outstanding musical works. The winner will receive a trophy and 40.000 kroner. The award ceremony will take place at a later date this year. The nominated works and authors are: Lyrics: Martin HagforsMusic: Martin and Lars HorntvethArtist: The National Bank Jury's statement: "Tolerate is the result of a collaboration between several central authors in Norwegian popular music. The text has a serious and vulnerable undertone. The melody in the verse is unpredictable, the chorus is catchy and melancholic. The song grows with each listen and manages to take the listener on a journey where lyrics and melody complement and support each other. The arrangement is dynamic, with many refined details. The way they have used electronics in combination with acoustic instruments gives the song a clear and distinctive signature. "Tolerate is a personal, beautiful and modern pop song with international impact." Lyrics: Ivar Chr. JohansenMusic: Ivar Christian Johansen, Anders LøvlieArtist: Ravi & DJ Løv Jury's statement:"Norway's new folk eccentric has managed to compose a song that breaks boundaries but wins over listeners. Well-developed rhythmic elements and simple, repetitive melodic themes provide space for the distinctive lyrics, lyrical delivery, and tone of voice. With an annoying theme line, Ravi conjures up a text that balances, teeters on the balls of its toes, and gasps for air. Yes, the whole song balances – on a thin line – and under Ravi's feet a cauldron of all kinds of rules, conventions and demands for credibility bubbles up. But the little man with the big words makes it to the other side, where the others are waiting to welcome him into the BIG NORWEGIAN SONGBOOK" Lyrics/music: David Chelsom VogtArr: Ivar Chelsom Vogt, Kåre Opheim, Øystein Skjælaaen, Jørgen SandvikArtist: Real Ones Jury's statement: "Ballad of an old man" represents the part of today's pop music that points back to the singer/songwriter tradition of the 60s-70s. The song starts with a very catchy chorus that develops into a sing-along. You find yourself humming along after just a few bars. The verse takes some surprising turns, but quickly returns to what is expected. The chorus never ends, and the song seemingly disappears into an a cappella section, before returning to the chorus once again. This is done with a large portion of humor and irreverence. "During the fall and winter, TONO will award a total of 5 EDVARD awards in different categories. Earlier this year, we presented the award in the traditional music category to Jorun Marie Kvernberg.
