The EDVARD Prize, named after Edvard Grieg, is a prize awarded by TONO to composers and songwriters for outstanding works of music. The winner will receive a trophy and 40.000 kroner. The award ceremony will take place later this year. The musical starting point is a classic ballroom dance of folk origin - for most composers, a rather narrow framework. But the composer manages to vary the form in such a way that it constantly deepens the emotional content, constantly illuminates the material in new ways and constantly develops interestingly as music. And thus the original genre is also renewed. The composer shows impressive craftsmanship and great artistic understanding of the content of the piece. Through his participation, he makes an important contribution to releasing a bold idea." About the nomination of the work, the jury says: "There is a restlessness in much of Prøysen's poetry that is just so camouflaged that you have to make a little effort to feel it." This quote is also experienced as covering the music they have created, which otherwise could easily have followed the same paths that the beloved poet moved on. It is by trying to go other ways that they have succeeded. At the same time, the poet is there in mind and skin. That is an achievement in itself. And the fact that the expected musical framework is not used, surprisingly enough brings us closer to the core of the material. Therefore, the music gives an extra dimension to the story about the poet we thought we knew." About the nomination of the work, the jury says: "In the short film "Dad" the composer is faced with the task of depicting both an external tension and empathy within a short, dramatic course. He must build up an almost horror-like story to bring us the perspective of the young protagonist. The composer has succeeded in this in an intelligent way by combining electronic sounds with acoustic ones, by adhering closely to the requirements of the genre, but at the same time creating space for the main character in the film.
