The temporary exemption for TONO licensing of online worship services will expire on February 1. Congregations must therefore enter into an agreement with TONO and pay composer fees for this use.
/ 03/02/2022 / Willy MartinsenAfter stricter infection control measures were introduced again from mid-December last year, TONO temporarily exempted ordinary TONO licensing of music in online church services from December 14 to February 1. Now that the measures are relaxed, it will once again be possible to hold physical church services. It is therefore also natural to return to ordinary TONO licensing for this use.
– Many congregations have wanted to broadcast church services online as an emergency solution when it has not been allowed to conduct ordinary church services. We recognize that this is a different type of use than in ordinary times where congregations want to distribute church services online in addition to physical church services. When physical church services can now be arranged again, the exemption as previously communicated will cease from February 1, says Inger Elise Mey, Department Director for Online Media at TONO.
Congregations within and outside the Church of Norway that wish to broadcast church services with music online must therefore enter into an ordinary TONO agreement for the use. The money they pay for this goes to the authors who created the music used in the broadcast. TONO offers both licenses for individual church services and ongoing half-yearly and full-yearly agreements. Read about prices and conditions here: https://www.tono.no/artikkel/opptak-av-gudstjenester/ To enter into an agreement, please contact online@tono.no.
TONO would also like to remind you that all performances of works at church services must be reported on the digital service Mitt TONO. More about this here: https://www.tono.no/na-skal-gudstjenester-tono-rapporteres-digitalt/
