TONO has now settled NOK 108,5 million to composers, songwriters, lyricists and music publishers at home and abroad. This is the third ordinary quarterly settlement in 2013. 60 percent of the amount goes to Norwegian rights holders, and just over NOK 11 million of this comes from the use of Norwegian music abroad.

– Approximately 65 million of the total settlement of 108,5 million kroner goes to TONO rights holders, while the remainder goes to rights holders associated with our sister societies abroad. We are pleased to be able to settle such a large amount because it means that music is highly valued and sought after in society, says TONO member director, Christian Onshus. The figures also include settlements for mechanical rights, both from the digital and physical fields, to Norwegian rights holders. This is settled by NCB on behalf of TONO, and is paid together with TONO's quarterly settlements to rights holders in Norway. This time, this amounted to 4,7 million kroner.
The distribution of the settlements between Norwegian and foreign rights holders varies from quarter to quarter, and is not a precise temperature gauge of the distribution between the use of Norwegian and foreign music, respectively. Nevertheless, this quarterly settlement also shows some trends. Within radio and TV, the main trend is that the foreign share is higher the more commercial the channel has. The channels that use Norwegian TONO repertoire to the greatest extent are NRK Folkemusikk, NRK Urørt, NRK TV Distrikt, NRK Jukebox, NRK Sami Radio, NRK Super (radio), as well as the P5 channels in Stavanger and Trondheim.
In 2012, TONO was able to allocate a total of NOK 370 million for settlements to licensees at home and abroad. 133 of these went to licensees in TONO, and the rest to foreign countries. The amount for settlements has increased steadily from year to year, and TONO also expects that 2013 will overall result in an increase from 2012.
