NCB and its owner companies are now working to develop a new model for licensing mechanical rights related to the release of physical media in the Nordic market. For the time being, NCB will operate as before.
/ 25/08/2016 / codexLicensing of composers' and lyricists' mechanical rights on physical formats is done by NCB on behalf of TONO and the other Nordic management organizations. With the decline in CD sales in the Nordic region and the ever-increasing consumption of music via streaming services, NCB and the owner companies are now working to develop a new model for licensing recorded music on physical formats. Over the coming months, NCB and the owner companies, with the assistance of external consultants, will conduct a thorough analysis to reveal what a future administrative structure and licensing model adapted to the new market reality might look like.
Analysis and proposals for a new model will be presented at an extraordinary general meeting towards the end of this year.
The ongoing work does not affect NCB's role or administration as of today. Producers who require a license for physical releases will therefore deal with NCB as before in the period ahead.
