NCB continues to work on a new management model for mechanical rights

As communicated on tono.no in August, NCB and their owners are working to develop a new model for managing mechanical rights related to physical media in the Nordic market.

NCB has, in close collaboration with the owner companies (the Nordic management organizations), as well as EY (Ernst & Young), worked extensively on this project during this autumn. The work has been, and is, very constructive.

Although developments in the Nordic music market have presented challenges for NCB, there will still be a need for licenses for mechanical rights related to physical media in the coming years. The work on the new model is not yet complete and thus not formally adopted by NCB's general meeting, but it is very likely that NCB will in one way or another be the licensing entity for mechanical rights related to physical media in the Nordic region in the future as well.

A concrete proposal for a new management model will be presented by the NCB board to the NCB general meeting on December 7. After that, the project will continue to work until a final decision will be made by the NCB's next general meeting in early 2017.
