/ 10/03/2016 / codexFrom March 10th until April 12th at 16pm you can apply to TONO for a scholarship. Here you can read more about the criteria for applying and how to apply.
The application period this year is from March 10 to April 12 at 16 p.m. The two scholarship schemes, the TONO scholarship and Young Talents, are intended to be instruments that will stimulate the creation of new musical works and new music lyrics. This year, a total of NOK 9,9 million has been set aside for the scholarships. TONO's group associations NOPA (Norwegian Association of Composers and Lyricists) and NKF (Norwegian Composers' Association) have allocated funds for the Young Talents scholarship scheme, which is awarded as part of the scheme.

– Our statutes state that one of TONO's tasks is to work towards the creation of new musical works. The TONO grant has had enormous significance for Norwegian music life for many years by providing concrete financial support for good projects that result in newly written musical works, says Deputy Director Svein Korshamn, who coordinates the grant work at TONO.
It is a condition for applying for the TONO grant that you have had a management contract with TONO for at least 3 years as of 12 April 2016. Applicants should normally have had an average settlement for carryover in the previous three years of at least kr 5,000 per year. Artist and songwriter Shaun Bartlett received a scholarship of 25,000 kroner last year. It has been important, he says:
– As a typical “DIY” artist, I can honestly say that it would have been very difficult to “afford” to have a good focus on writing new material during periods without support from, for example, TONO. Money is one thing, but the scholarship is also a very good recognition to take with you. And in fact, I am currently releasing a live album that includes two of the songs I wrote after I received the TONO scholarship last year, says Bartlett.

The Young Talents scholarship has been popular in recent years, providing young TONO members with a rare opportunity to receive support.
– It was absolutely great to receive the Young Talents grant last year. I made my first album last summer, which will be released in April. The grant was very helpful in that process. This is a great opportunity, so if you meet the application criteria, just apply, encourages Tonje Halbjørhus.
