/ 10/05/2021 / Willy MartinsenCongregations in the Church of Norway, free churches and other faith and life communities can perform music in ceremonies without a TONO permit. They must still report to TONO what is being performed, so that TONO has the necessary information to be able to settle an annual fee from the Ministry of Culture for this type of musical performance.
Now TONO is making reporting easier than ever by launching a brand new digital reporting solution for this area.
– TONO must have information about what is performed in ceremonies at faith and life communities, and with the new digital reporting tool this is easier than ever. We now encourage all faith and life communities to use this new solution as soon as possible. From January 1, 2022, all reporting in this area will take place digitally, and we will not accept paper reports, says TONO's reporting manager, Elin Heer.
An important point about the solution TONO is now launching is that it only can be used for reporting music use from ceremonies, such as church services, worship services and the like.
– Faith and life-belief communities are often avid music users, and large consumers of TONO licenses. They organize concerts, TV and radio content, podcasts and other digital content and so on. These are different areas of use that are accompanied by different rules, contract types and prices. TONO is working towards launching digital reporting solutions for all areas, but they will be rolled out at different times. The ceremony solution is the first of many, explains Heer.
In connection with the launch of the new service, TONO has developed its own guide that can download as pdf here. Se You can also watch our training film that shows how to use the service.
The story continues below the video.
Behind the launch lies a long-term and extensive development project. Leading up to the launch, the Norwegian Church has also been involved in the work as test users.
– We have had a pilot project where 3 congregations in the Borg Diocese, as well as some free churches, have been test users, and which has provided valuable input leading up to the launch. Today we are sending out an invitation to use the service to all the congregations of the Church of Norway. We will also invite other faith and life communities to become users in the future, says Heer.

The ceremony I am reporting on has been broadcast live online. How do I report this?
If you have a full or half-year agreement for live online services, you can report the ceremony in the digital reporting system in the same way as physical ceremonies.
If you do not have an appointment for online ceremonies, please contact the Online Media department at online@tono.no to enter into an agreement for this.
Should short choral foreplays be reported?
Yes, all music should be reported
Should devotions be reported in this solution?
Yes, devotions should also be reported here
We have organized a concert. Should this be reported in this solution?
No. This solution is only for church services, devotions and other ceremonies. Concerts and other events must be reported as before. More information and a form for this can be found here: https://www.tono.no/kunder/konsert-event/
We have played a song from a CD during the ceremony. How should this be reported?
Report in the same way as for the other songs used in the ceremony.
I submitted my report but forgot a song or made a mistake. What do I do?
Then you must contact us so that we can change it for you. Send an email to ceremony@tono.no.
I will no longer report to a congregation. How do I disconnect from a congregation?
You can easily add and remove congregations under "Roles" in the menu on the left.
Why do you need the organization number of the congregation I will be reporting to?
We must be able to identify who is reporting and which congregation/parish/community it is being reported for.
Why do the fields turn gray when I select a hymn or song from a playlist?
This is because we don't need any more information about this song. It has already been identified in our system.
Why do I have to report for one date at a time, and not multiple dates in the same report?
In order to be able to bill as accurately as possible, we need to have a report per date. It is easy to copy a report under "My ceremonies" and you can also create playlists that can be used if there are the same songs in different churches, for example.
