MUSIC FORUM, Tuesday 5 OctoberLitteraturhuset (Kverneland), 19:00 PM. Free admission and open to all. On the trail of Norwegian tastewith Jørgen Karlstrøm and Knut Schreiner
/ 04/10/2010 / codexMusikkforum invites a rock artist and a contemporary composer to think freely and loudly about the theme of "Norwegian music and taste". What is typically Norwegian? Who and what is the Norwegian audience? What about the composers and performers?
From composer Jørgen Karlstrøm we can expect personal opinions and potential controversy when he touches on topics such as the Norwegian trudelut, norm-setting but unsuccessful works, and the embrace of the provincial.
Then, songwriter, producer and guitarist Knut Schreiner will speak on the basis of his many years of career as a rock artist, where he has been praised both in rural Norway and at an international elite level. Schreiner will talk about, among other things, Norwegian coziness, district politics, recurring moods among Norwegian artists and audiences, and about elite and popular culture.
After the presentations, it is as usual open to questions and opinions from the audience. Perhaps you yourself have been irritated or surprised by the status quo of music in the country you live in?
has been one of the country's most prominent rock musicians for the past fifteen years, including as guitarist in Turboneger and Euroboys. Schreiner has toured widely (from Momarken to Coachella) and has been a producer for a number of artists in various genres. Schreiner is also a writer for, among others, Morgenbladet.
is one of Norway's most active contemporary composers, who was featured at this year's Ultima Festival with a work for amplified instruments written for the Arditti Quartet. He is an active writer and runs the record label MERE Records, where he has produced several of the releases (including Garbage Collection, which gave Risto Holopainen the Spellemann Prize in the Contemporary Composer of the Year category in 2009). He is also a guitarist in the metal band Recovery Injection.
Music Forum is the Norwegian Composers' Association and NOPA's joint professional forum with the goal of creating greater awareness and engagement around composition and related topics within music. Music Forum is free and open to everyone.
