Everyone playing at Musikkfesten on Saturday will be offered a meal between 14pm and 18pm (or as long as they have food). The contact at each stage is responsible for handing out accreditation ribbons that you must show to get food.

was previously called Music Day and has its origins in the French event Fête de la Musique. The world's largest international music festival was conceived under Jack Lange in 1982, then Minister of Culture in France. The event came to Norway at the initiative of the Oslo municipality in 1992, in other words, the 20th day is set in 2011.

Fête de la Musique, National Music Day, or Musikkfest is now held in more than 100 countries worldwide. Common denominators are that the music is mostly outdoors, the artists perform free of charge and everything is free for the public. In order to formally be part of the Fete de la Musique, it is assumed that the event is on June 21. This has proven difficult in Norway, partly because of our holiday schedule, and that it has been necessary to place the event on a weekend. In recent years, we have chosen to stick to the first Saturday in June. In other words, although inspired by the Fete de la Musique, we are still not formally part of this movement.

Music Festival/Music Day has been held in several places in the country with varying success. In recent years, Trondheim and Stavanger have made a strong appearance.

In Oslo, the Music Festival has a solid position. The size of the event has grown significantly in recent years, from 10 stages in the late nineties to about 30 this year.
