A new standard for "Music Cue Sheets" is now being adopted in the television and film industry worldwide. This will allow production companies, broadcasters, music publishers, "TONO" companies and so on to streamline the work of documenting music used in films and television programs.
/ 11/06/2021 / Willy MartinsenTV channels, streaming services and cinemas show films and TV programmes that use music. They must therefore also report to TONO what kind of music has been performed. They must obtain this information from the production companies that create the content. So-called “Music Cue Sheets” are used for this.
– CISAC, which represents companies like TONO worldwide, together with music publishers and producers, has been working for five years on a new international standard for handling information about music used in TV and film productions. The new standard will provide time and resource gains for everyone working with reporting music in audio-visual productions. There is also reason to expect that data quality will be strengthened, says TONO's communications manager, Willy Martinsen.
The group that has developed the new standard is called "The Society Publisher Forum", and is a joint initiative of the organizations CISAC, ICMP and IMPA with support from AIMP and IMPF. Producers and video-on-demand services have also been involved in the work to ensure the best possible implementation of the project globally.
Music Cue Sheets provide detailed information to publishers, producers and management companies like TONO so that they can track the use of music in audiovisual productions in films and television programs. This enables correct and precise payment of remuneration to those who have created the music used in audiovisual productions.
You can find the form at TONO's website by going here.
