Mine for an evening – No. 4

No. 4 is a critically acclaimed pop group that has achieved great success with its melodic songs and warm and intimate lyrics. The trio consists of Julia Witek, Emilie Christensen and Ingeborg Marie Mohn, the latter two of whom are primarily the band's songwriters.

In 2024, they released their fifth album, Inner life, and with that came the song Mine for one night – the album's second single.

– It was such a hit. The riff was there right away, and it felt very intuitive – almost like you just had to pick up your Mac and start singing and writing, the band says.

The song came about the way many of No. 4's songs are created: with a musical sketch from Mohn that Christensen further develops lyrically. In this case, she was inspired by Daniela Rathana's song "Kyss," which was on repeat for weeks.

– I wanted to write a text about an overwhelming encounter. The carrying of a short but powerful moment, says Christensen.

From ballad to pop song

Mine for one night went through a transformation during the songwriting process, and what started out small eventually became something bigger.

– It worked very well as a simple ballad, but we felt a need to expand the format – to make it work more like a pop song without losing the sensitive expression.

Producer Markus Vikstvedt, who worked on the entire Inner lifealbum, became an important player in the process.

– He had an open, direct and honest approach that was perhaps a little unusual for us, but which turned out to be very fruitful for the music. And for us.

Five albums and full houses

No. 4 was formed in 2007, but it would be seven years before they released their first single, "Lite og stort." The song became a minor radio hit and was used in a Widerøe campaign.

Even before the debut album Hands in the air (2016) the trio had become a live favorite, and the album was nominated for the Spellemann and TONO composer awards. With the sequels What now? (2017) Duel (2019) and No. 4 (2021) they solidified their position as one of the country's most distinctive pop bands.

In the winter of 2025, No. 4 embarked on an extensive Norwegian tour, including concerts in both Stockholm and Copenhagen. In the summer, they will continue to meet audiences at Norwegian festivals such as Slottsfjell in Tønsberg, Fres Festival in Fresvik and Øyafestivalen in Oslo.

Then it is not inconceivable that the festival audience could experience Mine for one night in the living.
