/ 29/03/2019 / Kristian DugstadNRK currently plays exclusively Norwegian music on the radio. Norwegian Day is part of the #hørnorsk campaign, which will address the declining share of Norwegian speakers. – We want to reverse the trend and give Norwegian music the attention it deserves, says Marthe Vee at NOPA.
For the second year in a row, the music industry will promote Norwegian music through #hørnorsk. The week-long campaign consists of courses, playlists and concerts, culminating in the Spellemannprisen, Saturday, March 30th.
– There is an incredible amount of good music being created in Norway today, and we want to give it an even bigger platform. Hør norsk should be an eye-opener for the audience and an inspiration for Norwegian composers and lyricists, says Marthe Vee, communications manager at NOPA.

In 2018, NOPA took the initiative to #hørnorsk, and the campaign is a close collaboration with Spellemann. They also have large parts of the professional and voluntary music community in Norway behind them.
– Through #hørnorsk we collaborate with choirs and bands all over the country, who want to play music created by Norwegian composers and lyricists, says Vee.
NOPA is an interest organization for Norwegian composers and lyricists. The association works to promote Norwegian music, and has representatives on TONO's board.

Today, Friday 29 March, NRK is also taking part in the pledge. The national broadcaster is dedicating an entire day to Norwegian music on the radio. Norwegian Day, and the campaign, is a necessary measure, believes Marthe Vee.
– As recent reports show, the Norwegian share is unfortunately decreasing. We want to reverse this trend and give Norwegian music the platform and attention it deserves. This is one of several initiatives we have initiated to contribute to this.
As in 2018, the Hør norsk campaign will conclude with the Spellemannprisen, on Saturday, March 30. The awards ceremony is a tribute to the past year of Norwegian music.
– NOPA does an incredibly important job for Norwegian music and for composers and writers of music lyrics, every day, all year round. It was a pleasure to collaborate with them last year, with an extra focus on Norwegian music through #hørnorsk. We look forward to continuing the collaboration, says Spellemann chairwoman, Marte Thorsby.
TONO is one of Spellemann's main partners.
