TONO is one of the supporters of the network and development program KUPP because it brings increased attention to contemporary music. This week, the six composers in the program are in Berlin.

KUPP is a development and networking program for young, promising composers under the age of 35, supported by TONO, among others. Six orchestras from all over Norway are participating in the program. Each of them has chosen one composer from whom they commit to commissioning a completely new work. The ambition is that the works will reach a large audience, and bring new Norwegian composer talents to an international market. TONO expects that the program will contribute to increased visibility of contemporary music.
Tight schedule
This week, the second session of the Kupp program will take place, and it will all take place in Berlin. Over the next three days, the composers will go through a busy program with meetings at various German music companies, including Monon/funkhaus, Music Sales, Idagio, Kunstwerke, Karsten Witt and Deutsche Grammofon. They will also visit curators, and there will be panel discussions with composers such as Danish Simon-Steen Andersen and Norwegian (but Berlin-based) Stine Janvin Motland and Camilla Vatne Barratt-Due. In addition, there will be a reception at the Norwegian embassy with the German music industry, who according to the embassy have shown great interest in the project. Kathrine S. Finnskog from Music Norway will be present there to talk about KUPP.
The KUPP composers are:
– Mette Henriette Martedatter Rølvåg – North Norwegian Opera and Symphony Orchestra (NOSO)
– Marius Neset – Bergen Philharmonic Orchestra (BFO)
– Tyler Futrell – Trondheim Soloists
– Therese B. Ulvo – Oslo Philharmonic Orchestra (OFO)
– Kristine Tjøgersen – Norwegian Broadcasting Orchestra (KORK)
– Øyvind Mæland – Stavanger Symphony Orchestra (SSO)
The next gathering in the program will be in connection with the Ultima festival in Oslo in September.
