– Artists should have paid

It is a tradition that TONO's chairman is a composer for over 90 years. When Ingrid Kindem writes music, it is through transistors and circuits.

Forget Mozart's powdered wig and Grieg's unruly hair. Forget grand pianos with ink-stained, yellowed sheet music and halter dresses. In Ingrid Kindem's home studio in Frogner, there are knobs and keys as far as the eye can see. Here she has collected synths, keyboards, samplers and digital sound sources from her entire career.

Kindem has traveled the world with her, but over the years she has taken on new challenges. In May she was re-elected as chairwoman of TONO, and from the boardroom she works to ensure that everyone is paid fairly for what they do.

– Artists have this as a profession. They should also be paid. We who sit on the board stand on the shoulders of generations of composers and lyricists who have built the system around collective management. TONO can ensure that those who have made the music get paid, so that you can actually spend your time creating music and song poetry, says Kindem.
