Two music licenses in one agreement

Now it's easier than ever to clearer music rights for businesses that use background music.

TONO and Gramo are rights organizations for songwriters, composers, lyricists and their music publishers, respectively – and for musicians and producers. With us, you get a license to use both well-known and lesser-known music from all over the world.

TONO and Gramo have now chosen that TONO will have all customer contact on behalf of both companies. We believe that customers appreciate this. No businesses that use background music need to have a dialogue with Gramo anymore.  Customers will therefore receive one joint invoice from TONO and Gramo. These invoices will contain different types of pricing information for the two organizations. This is because we have slightly different ways of calculating prices.

If you have any questions about this, please contact us by sending an email to marked@tono.no.

And remember! Music creates value for the businesses that use it! Read more about this at musicamplifier.no.

Questions and answers

Here are answers to some questions we think you may have.

What is the news – and what does it mean in practice?
Previously, businesses that use recorded background music have had separate agreements with TONO and Gramo. From September 1, 2025, all businesses that use recorded background music will only deal with one party: TONO. This means one overall agreement, one invoice and one customer contact – for both TONO and Gramo.

Why are TONO and Gramo doing this?
We do this to make it easier for customers to use the best music and to strengthen our customer service. At the same time, we streamline our work and reduce costs, with the goal of increasing the income of the rights holders who create the music used.

Will the prices or rights I pay for change?
No. TONO and Gramo are still responsible for their respective rights areas and prices. It is only the practical handling that is collected by TONO.

What happens to existing agreements?
Existing agreements with both TONO and Gramo will be handled together at TONO from September. You do not need to do anything active.

Who do I contact with questions, complaints or debt collection?
TONO will be the point of contact for all inquiries – including customer service, complaints and debt collection matters.

Will the invoice show what goes to TONO and Gramo?
Yes. Even if you receive one comprehensive invoice from TONO, it will be clear which parts apply to TONO and which apply to Gramo.

What about businesses that play music TONO does not manage?
There, only Gramo rights will be invoiced.
