Cultural schools must report to TONO

The use of music in cultural schools is covered by an agreement between TONO and the Norwegian Cultural Schools Council. All you need to do is report the music being performed so that the correct composers and lyricists can be paid.

Just before Christmas, the Norwegian Cultural Schools Council and TONO renewed their agreement on the use of music in Norwegian cultural schools.

95 percent of the country's municipal cultural schools are members and owners of the Cultural Schools Council, and are covered by the agreement.

The agreement covers public performances of music under the auspices of the cultural school. In practice, this means summer and Christmas closing ceremonies, and other concert events with the public.

No report, no composer payment

As a result of TONO's agreement with the Norwegian Council of Cultural Schools, cultural schools do not need to think about applying for a TONO permit and paying the music creators through TONO.

An important part of the agreement, however, is that schools must TONO-report all the music they perform publicly.

We at TONO use the reports to distribute the money to the right music creators, both Norwegian and foreign. Without the reports, it is impossible to know who should have paid.

Easy reporting

You can easily report for each concert by clicking on "Download repertoire list" on this page.

Fill in the time and place of the event. List all music that was performed, preferably including the composer and lyricist if you have them.

Send the form to marked@tono.no and make sure it is clear that you are reporting on behalf of a cultural school.
