Kåre Viken served Norwegian composers, lyricists, songwriters and music publishers for 26 years until his heart suddenly, unexpectedly and far too soon beat its last beat two weeks ago. Kåre was only 64 years old.

His family, friends and we, his colleagues at TONO, will carry on the work without him. In his spirit, we will try to do so with the same integrity and zeal with which he carried out his work.

Kåre joined TONO in 1997. He was a central and visible leader, and an exceptionally skilled professional. He had great commitment to his job, and full control over the finances of our organization. Kåre had a great sense of responsibility, he was ambitious on both his own and TONO's behalf, and always concerned with “a good deal”. He was also a visionary. The idea of investing in Kongens gate 12 came from Kåre. Without his commitment, it is doubtful that this center for our members and for Norwegian music would have become a reality.

Kåre was a good colleague. He could be stubborn and determined, and did not shy away from a necessary discussion. However, we remember his thoughtfulness and smile even better. Not least, we remember his humor. If you had Kåre by your side in social situations, you were guaranteed a fun evening, with fantastic stories and a door of laughter that was often thrown wide open.

Our thoughts go out to Kåre's loved ones – Beate, Eline, Lukas, Filip and Kasper, and the rest of the family. It is painful to lose a partner, a father, a grandfather, a brother and a father-in-law.

But we're also thinking of you, Kåre. Your desk at the far end by the window is empty. It's quieter in the office. It's strange. It's sad. The void left by you is great. You are, and will be, deeply missed.

We shine peace on Kåre Viken's memory.
