Broadcasting payments for the 2009 performance year have now been paid to TONO members. Details can now be viewed on TONO's web services.
/ 11/06/2010 / codexIn connection with this settlement, we have also launched a new web service that allows members to search the settlement. This function can be found under “Search settlement” on . Here you can see which works have been performed, where they have been performed and how much remuneration they have generated. Please note that you can only search for settlement for performances in 2009.
Below you will find information about this settlement, which is the first settlement made according to the new settlement model. This was adopted at TONO's annual meeting in 2008.
One of the most important changes is that the weight groups have now been abolished. If you had all or most of your works in weight group I, you will find that a performed minute has a higher value than before on most of the channels in the broadcasting area.
It is important to look at the new billing model as a whole. We will bill for concerts in the fall and the way we bill for concerts has also changed compared to before. The concert fee paid is now more in line with the fee paid by the concert organizer, and each concert gets its own minute value. This means that the fee paid to TONO members is more in line with the income from the concert than before.
Clock advance billing is now automatic. In other words, you don't have to submit forms.
A more detailed review of the new settlement model can be found in TONO news no. 4 2008.
If you had most of your works in weight group II or III, it is natural that your remuneration will be less this year. At the same time, it is possible that your works have been performed less. The minute value on the individual channels also varies from year to year.
The weight groups have now been abolished. This means that works in weight group I will receive a higher settlement than previously. If you had the most works in weight group I previously, this may mean that you will receive more payment this year.
The minute value on the individual channels also varies from year to year.
The minute value for keystrokes is 50% of the minute value for mechanical feeds. This is a change from previously, when the minute value was equal to the mechanical value.
The three NRK channels are allocated an equal distribution amount. The total number of minutes broadcast per channel and the proportion of live broadcasts in relation to mechanical broadcasts vary, creating different minute values for the channels.
A performance is considered mechanical when the musical work is played from a record, CD, MC, music video, etc.
A performance is live when it is a live performance and/or when the performance is performed to playback. It is also a requirement that the broadcasting company has produced the broadcast. For broadcasts that are not produced by the broadcasting company, it is settled as a live performance if the broadcast is broadcast live (this also applies to any replays). However, it is only the first two times that the broadcast/production is shown that we settle the performances as live (applies per channel). Any subsequent broadcasts are settled as mechanical broadcasts.
These channels are located under English territory and are billed by PRS for Music in England. Any billing from these channels will be received through the international billing.
Sampling means that you start from a limited period (a certain number of weeks) and settle based on reports sent from the channels. This provides a representative sample, and is a more efficient and cost-effective way to settle than if you were to do it for an entire year.
The following channels are sampled this year:
mPetreNRK JazzNRK Folk MusicNRK GoldNRK Super (radio)TV 2 Zebra
No. The income from local radio and local TV is distributed to other national channels from which we receive reports, and which largely affect the same rights holders. If we were to have reports from local radio and local TV, the costs of settling this would be too high. This is a collective management decision determined by TONO's elected representatives.
In the broadcasting settlement, each performed work is calculated a certain number of points based on the time it was performed, whether the performance was live, mechanical or vignette, and which performance factor applies to the individual channel. For live performances, a time factor also applies that awards points according to the time the work was performed. The point value is the distribution sum (assigned to each individual channel) divided by the total number of points for a specific area.
