Musician, lyricist and sound artist Jenny Hval receives TONO's challenger award for the album "Viscera". The jury describes Jenny Hval as a steady challenger in the Norwegian music scene and describes the album as liberatingly different.
/ 17/10/2012 / codex– “Viscera” (“the internal organs”) is a concept album, which both directly and subtly explores a kind of “body’s being in the world”, without this appearing pompous or distant. The album is a liberatingly different, and seductively eccentric element in Norwegian music, which, with a small group of alert musicians and a co-creative producer, creates expectations for new, unprecedented music. This is what the jury says in its justification.

The TONO award consists of a diploma designed by Rune Mortensen and 50.000 kroner.
The award will be presented at Ny Musikk's premises at Platous gate 18.
The TONO award was established in 2011 and is awarded in two categories, challenger and communicator.
The jury consisted of Ingrid Kindem, Kari Bremnes, Maja Kjelstrup Ratkje, Dag Krogsvold, Lars Petter Hagen and Synne Skouen (jury chair).
