Jean-Michel Jarre has been elected president of CISAC, the umbrella organization for all the world's "TONO companies." He will thus become a unifying figure and champion for the rights and framework conditions of three million songwriters, filmmakers and other artist groups worldwide - including the 23,000 Norwegian songwriters affiliated with TONO.
/ 05/07/2013 / codexTONO is also affiliated with CISAC. – Jean-Michel Jarre enjoys great respect as a musician and songwriter both among his songwriter colleagues around the world and among the general public. He is also a reflective, knowledgeable and committed man who understands both copyright and the challenges creative people face. We believe he will have a unifying effect on CISAC's member organizations. We also expect him to be able to speak up for music creators and other artist groups in a good way both to authorities and public opinion in various countries around the world, says TONO CEO Cato Strøm. Jean-Michel Jarre expresses great joy at, and in connection with, the appointment: – It never occurred to me when I started making music that I would one day become the head of an organization like this. CISAC has an important mission and it is an honor to be allowed to take on the role. The rights of creative people are discussed all over the world, and it is our duty to ensure that they have the opportunity to retain control over, and have the right to be paid for, their art. I am very excited to begin this journey together with the rest of the CISAC Board, our Vice Presidents and all our talented members. The General Assembly also elected four people to the newly appointed positions of CISAC Vice President. The purpose of the newly created positions is to ensure representation from different parts of the world. The positions will be held by Indian music creator Javed Akhtar, musician and songwriter Angélique Kidjo from Benin, Argentine filmmaker Marcelo Piñeyro, and sculptor Ousmane Sow from Senegal.
