Songwriters from four countries met at TONO Studio when TONO organized its first international songwriting camp. Participants from Norway, Sweden, Germany and Finland created new relationships across borders.

– Through the camp, TONO members can expand their international network and build relationships with songwriters and producers in other countries, says Svanhild Katrine Skrede of TONO.

Tuesday, September 8th to Thursday, September 10th, TONO organized its first self-produced songwriting camp.

The camp was carried out in collaboration with sister societies STIM, GEMA and Teosto, all of which represent creators in their respective countries.

A total of 16 songwriters participated, seven TONO members and nine members from the three other companies.

New opportunities for TONO members

TONO Studio opened for use by all TONO members in May, but this is the first time TONO has organized its own songwriting camp in the new premises.

The camp brought together songwriters from the four companies who are all at a point in their careers where international collaborations and networks can help open new doors.

– Arranging camps like this is one of the great opportunities TONO Studio gives us. Through the camp, TONO members can expand their international network and build relationships with songwriters and producers in other countries. For many, such contacts can be important for taking the next step in their career, says Svanhild Katrine Skrede.

TONO advertised the camp for members through an open application process, and participants were selected based on a comprehensive assessment of data related to activity and disbursement through TONO.

Natural partners

STIM, GEMA, Teosto and TONO are all part of a large international network of copyright organizations. TONO has reciprocal agreements with around 100 sister organizations worldwide.

The agreements ensure that TONO members are represented internationally when their music is used outside Norway, while TONO represents foreign authors in this country.

– We have close ties to our sister societies all over the world, we are similar in many ways and are natural partners for each other. We have a common desire to facilitate new music, new collaborations and new opportunities for our members. At the same time, such projects give us the opportunity to learn from each other and strengthen the cooperation between the organizations, says Skrede.
