The Spellemannprisen was held for the 53rd time yesterday, Thursday, April 24, at The Hub in Oslo. Awards were presented in 28 categories.
– TONO believes that Spellemann still has an important function. The award is an inspiration for TONO members, for artists and for the surrounding apparatus. It makes Norwegians aware of new Norwegian quality music in all genres – and at the same time provides an important platform for the next generation of music creators, says Karl Vestli.
– I think it was gratifying to see so many new voices and young people among the nominees and winners, and at the awards ceremony itself. When Spellemann also succeeds well in reaching out to young people on social media, this helps make Spellemann relevant for new generations. We congratulate Spellemann on a well-run event, and not least: A big congratulations to all nominees and winners.

TONO has been a partner and sponsor of Spellemann since 2008. Composer and lyricist awards were established at that time. We are still guarantors of these awards, and appoint the juries in the two categories. TONO was also instrumental in the creation of a separate category for Songwriter of the Year in 2018. TONO has had an observer position on Spellemann's board since 2019.
