Over 9000 businesses that use music now receive invoices from TONO. The money will be welcome income for those who make the music you love.
/ 24/01/2020 / Kristian DugstadThese days, over 9000 TONO customers are receiving invoices for music use in 2020. TONO pays this money to composers, lyricists and their music publishers.
The background to the whole scheme, meaning that your business must pay TONO to use music, is the Copyright Act. In simple terms, the law gives the music creator the right to own and make their own music available, and through TONO membership, the music creator entrusts TONO with giving consent to the use – in return for payment.

“The customers who now receive invoices include hotels and accommodation, catering, transport, fitness centers, work canteens and all kinds of customer premises such as shops and hair salons,” says Ellen Tove Gunleiksen. She heads the Marketing Department's invoice group at TONO.
Many people may not be aware that TONO is a non-profit company. This means that the money TONO receives will be passed on to the rights holders of the musical works performed.
With a TONO agreement, you know that songwriters and lyricists both in Norway and around the world get paid.
Music is an important tool for stores and customer premises that can add enormous value. With a TONO agreement, you have the right to play the familiar and beloved as well as the new and exciting. You can read more about this at The value of music.no.
In TONO's marketing department, there are three employees who work daily with contracts for background music in companies. In the coming weeks, they will be working hard to answer your questions.
– When we send over 9000 invoices, we naturally receive many inquiries from our customers, says Bjørn Gabrielsen.
Do you have questions about your agreement? Do you find errors or want to update your customer information? Then you can easily contact Bjørn and the rest of TONO's marketing department at marked@tono.no.
Elen Tove Gunleiksen encourages all companies to use EHF or e-invoice. The Marketing Department also encourages its customers to send inquiries regarding agreements by email.
– In order to create or change an agreement, we need to have it in writing from the customer. Everything goes faster if the contact is by email from the beginning.
