During the first week of July, the European Parliament will vote on the draft new copyright directive. This will have major consequences for everyone who composes music and writes lyrics.
The draft new copyright directive will provide fair payment to those who create music when their music is used on the major digital platforms, such as YouTube, which currently pay very little to those who have written the music.
The rights of millions of music creators worldwide in Europe will be strengthened if the current draft new directive is implemented. The directive will also set a precedent for other countries in the world, and thus have an impact on creators worldwide.
Unfortunately, the battle is far from over. Tech companies and anti-copyright groups are now doing everything they can to destroy music creators. They have launched a major campaign that, based on misinformation, attempts to weaken the rights of authors by portraying payments to authors as censorship and a threat to freedom of expression.
We are about to reach the absolute final phase of this important legislative work, and it is absolutely crucial that music creators and lovers around the world now give their support.
If you haven't yet signed the petition for composers, songwriters and lyricists, do so now by signing at Makeinternetfair.eu.
