It's been almost ten years since Gabrielle took Norway by storm. Her career got off to a flying start with a song that has led to both success and frustration. - I don't hide the fact that we've worked really hard to get over the grind of being a commercial pop artist with "Ring meg" in our bag.
/ 23/10/2019 / Kristian DugstadArtist and songwriter Gabrielle Leithaug is a guest in a new episode of the TONO podcast Lage Musikk.
In conversation with host Torgny Amdam, she talks about her new album "Snart, Gabby" and the artistic journey that has led her to where she is today.
The podcast is out Wednesday morning on all platforms such as Spotify and iTunes.
Gabrielle started her career as an artist with the single "Ring meg" in 2011, and really took Norway by storm. The hit song sold 10x Platinum and overnight the whole country knew who she was.
In the podcast, Leithaug can tell that the attention the success brought was not entirely positive.
– I don't hide the fact that we've worked really hard to get over the hurdle of being a commercial pop artist with "Ring meg" in our bag. You can face certain prejudices as a pop artist. That you don't write your own music and that you don't work hard.
– I don't hide the fact that we have worked really hard to get over the hurdle of being a commercial pop artist with "Ring meg" in our bag.
Today, Gabrielle is a very established name in Norwegian music, and her career has gone through the hit "5 fine frøkner" and the EP "Vekk meg opp" before she released "Snart, Gabby" this fall. Today, Leithaug says that she can feel that she misses being an underdog.
– Sometimes I wonder what happened to the time when we played in tiny places for almost no people. It was all about working our way up. When the apparatus has become so big, I feel like we have to work extra hard to hold on to that spontaneous joy.
