Who is Skin Cancer?
We are a raucous ska/punk/noise band, who make songs about things that annoy us.
What is behind the name?
It's a long story about an inside joke that almost has to be passed down orally.
Why did you start?
3/4 of the band was on the LOUD bandcamp (completely without musical experience), and found that we had to form a band, because it's incredibly fun to mess around with instruments you can't play.
What was our first song?
The very first song we wrote was a tribute to the country/pop band Honningbarna and Jonas Alaska. Everyone is very embarrassed by the song and refuses to play it.
Where and how do you write?
Leah mostly writes the lyrics, while the whole band collaborates on the instrumentals. The magic usually happens at Øvingshotellet.
Where do you get inspiration?
Difficult question, but we are generally very inspired by Honningbarna, The Aller Værste and various old Norwegian punk.
Can music contribute to social debate?
Of course! Music is a wonderful way to express yourself. Plus, listening to political opinions through music is much more fun than boring speeches.
What comes first, lyrics and melody?
We usually start with a riff and build on that. Sometimes we're particularly mad about something, and then the lyrics may come first.
Tell us about your latest single, Kulturelitens Barn.
Kulturelitens Barn is our first released song that is not directly political! It is basically about people we don't like.
You're playing at Vill Vill Vest in September. What does that mean to you?
It's incredibly cool! It'll be our first concert in Bergen, and we're really looking forward to it. A little curious to see if we'll actually have any listeners in Bergen.

What are you working on at the moment?
Right now we are busy organizing the Helt OK Festival in Sandvika on August 31st.
What is your career highlight so far?
Very subjective question, you'd have to ask everyone in the band. I (Stella) was certainly very happy with our release concert in February.
Can you share your greatest musical experiences – as a listener?
Actually the same answer as the previous question, but the Honey Kids are always spectacular.
