In March, TONO announced that payments from streaming services would have to be postponed until the end of April due to the transition to new technical systems. “We now unfortunately see that we need some more time to carry out the necessary checks to ensure that the payments are correct,” says Head of the Settlement Department, Elin Heer.
/ 28/04/2026 / Willy MartinsenTONO is changing its billing system and has partnered with ICE to handle music streaming. This will provide better quality and precision, and more efficient administration when the solution is fully implemented. It will also facilitate more frequent payments over time.
In the transition phase to new systems, with new partners, it is necessary to perform quality checks and error corrections that go beyond the ordinary. This now means that the payment that was announced for the end of April must be postponed to the first half of May.
– This is of course not something we take lightly. This affects many members, and we regret that it is necessary to wait a little longer with the payment. This is a large and complex work that involves large amounts of data, and in such a process errors can occur. We must do everything we can to avoid that. Now it means that we need some extra time for quality assurance and corrections. We cannot pay out money until we are sure that everything is correct. We are doing everything we can to get this in place as quickly as possible, says Elin Heer.
The department is now working to ensure that the payment will arrive next week, perhaps as early as Wednesday. In the worst case, if the quality control reveals errors that need to be corrected, the payment could be delayed for a little longer.

TONO has gradually implemented the new settlement system in several areas. In March, TV, radio and cinema were settled in a new solution. In parallel with the music streaming settlement, which will now be in the first half of May, TONO is working on making upcoming international settlements in a new solution. As of now, we see that the payment that is normally made in June may be postponed. We will come back with more information about this in good time before the June settlement. At the same time, other areas that were not included in the March settlement, such as video on demand and post-settlement of concerts for performances in 2022-2024, will be paid in the June settlement.
