Error in NCB settlement

In June, creators across the Nordic region were hit by a billing error from NCB, the Copenhagen-based company that manages mechanical rights on behalf of TONO and other Nordic management companies. TONO is now working to contact those affected, and together with the Nordic TONO companies, we are in close dialogue with NCB to uncover how the error could have occurred.

There are 208 TONO members among the Nordic composers, lyricists and music publishers who have been affected in June by an error in the settlement from NCB, the company that administers mechanical rights on behalf of TONO, Stim (Sweden), Koda (Denmark), Teosto (Finland) and Stef (Iceland). The error concerns errors in settlement amounts paid from Germany from the use of mechanical rights, i.e. recorded music on physical formats or synchronization of music into TV and film productions.

Yesterday, NCB confirmed to TONO that the discrepancy had occurred. Last night we received a list of which TONO members are affected, and today we have initiated work to contact those affected. These will receive guidance on how to return erroneously received amounts.

TONO and the Nordic companies have established a dialogue with NCB to uncover how the error could have occurred so that we, together with NCB and the other Nordic management companies, can establish measures to ensure that this cannot happen again.
