The Norwegian Composers' Fund promotes creative musical art by granting support to composers, regardless of genre. Previously, one had to be a so-called commissioner, i.e. a concert venue, a festival, an orchestra or similar, in order to apply for support. This will now change, and from now on composers themselves can apply for support directly if they can document a commissioner.
– This is actually a formalization of custom, since the practice is already that it is often the composer himself who does much of the application work on behalf of the client, says Kristin Slørdahl, chairwoman of the Music Foundations. – With this change in the rules, it will be easier for composers and songwriters to apply for support directly.
The Norwegian Composers' Fund receives its funds from TONO. This is based on the Act on Fees to the Norwegian Composers' Fund of 1965, §3. The Norwegian Composers' Fund granted a total of approx. 10 million kroner to applicants in 2016.
