Wardruna in TONO podcast

A Norse world success

Wardruna is an international success with Norse texts, taglharp, buckhorn and lur. Why are audiences around the world falling head over heels for Einar Selvik's primordial Nordic cinematic folk?

Einar Selvik is the founder and composer behind the international success Wardruna. With taglharp, buckhorn, lyre, lur and Norse and High Norse lyrics, they create cinematic, magnificent musical landscapes inspired by real archaeological finds from the societies that have lived in the Nordic region for thousands of years.

The music resonates with audiences around the globe. As their sixth studio album, Birna, is released on January 25th, the band is touring Australia and New Zealand.

You can hear about how a kind ginnungagap drove him to start the project in TONO's podcast Musikkskpaerne.

The foundation of the project is knowledge. It was important for him to learn as much as possible about what we know, and think we know, about music from pre-Christian times, before he entered the creative process.

– I don't want to climb trees that don't have roots, says Selvik when he guest-starred on the podcast.
