– On May 7, TONO's board adopted a new settlement model with the assumption that the annual meeting would endorse the basic principles of the settlement model. That did not happen, but we are listening to the annual meeting. We are now making some adjustments to the basic principles, and will hold an extraordinary annual meeting on August 28 where we will ask for approval of these. It is important for a united TONO board to establish a new settlement model as quickly as possible so that we comply with the Act on Collective Management, international business rules between the "TONO companies" and demands from rights holders and other stakeholders, says the new chairman of TONO, Ole Henrik Antonsen.
As announced on TONO website July 17 The introduction of a new billing model is the new TONO board's most important priority.
Since the annual meeting on June 11, they have therefore, in collaboration with TONO's administration, worked to adjust the basic principles for a new settlement model.
– The adjusted basic principles will be clearer, and recognizable with principles that have already been adopted by other “TONO companies” in Sweden, Denmark and the rest of Europe. It is very important for TONO that we actually get the annual meeting's approval of the new principles. We have to introduce a new settlement model that does not violate the law and our international obligations, says Antonsen.
Over the summer, TONO's board will discuss input that came up at TONO's annual meeting on June 11, new legal assessments prepared for TONO and, not least, the inquiries that have come from various parts of TONO's membership, partners, managers and other parties following the annual meeting.
The board will continue to work on the principles and the settlement model for case papers will be sent out on August 14, two weeks before the extraordinary annual meeting. This will provide clear and good information about both the principles and the settlement rules.
A physical and digital information meeting will be held for TONO's voting members on August 19th – a few days before the extraordinary annual meeting on August 28th, which will also be held as a physical and digital meeting.

TONO was founded in 1928 and is a non-profit cooperative owned and managed by composers, lyricists and music publishers, and which manages the economic copyrights in their musical works. TONO grants permission for the use of protected music on radio, TV, the internet, concerts, cinema, etc. for a fee, and transfers its financial results each year to the rights holders of music that has been performed publicly. TONO has more than 40,000 members, but also works for millions of authors and music publishers from around the world.
