The creators behind the group The National Bank and Ragnhild Berstad were each awarded an EDVARD prize in the categories of popular music and contemporary music.

The authors Martin Hagfors, Lars and Martin Horntveth were awarded EDVARD for the work 'Tolerate'. The jury says about the work: 'Tolerate is the result of a collaboration between several central authors in Norwegian popular music. The lyrics have a serious and vulnerable undertone. The melody in the verse is unpredictable, the chorus is catchy and melancholic. The song grows with each listen and manages to take the listener on a journey where lyrics and melody complement and support each other. The arrangement is dynamic, with many refined details. The way they have used electronics in combination with acoustic instruments gives the song a clear and distinctive signature. Tolerate is a personal, beautiful and modern pop song with international impact.' The other nominees in this category were Ivar Chr. Johansen and Anders Løvlie for the work 'Dødsøt' and David Chelsom Vogt for the work 'Ballad of an old man'. Ragnhild Berstad won EDVARD for her work 'Recludo'. The jury says about the work: 'A work with large, organic waves of intensity, composed of condensation/dilution of rhythmic activity, color shifts, instrumentation, and with microtonal melody and harmony lines. Good tension/balance between soloists and plenum, different positions in the room, microphone-borne sound and acoustic sound. A personal, solid and richly faceted work, with a strong, underlying dramatic power. Carefully coordinated imagery and lighting further clarify the piece.'
The other nominees in contemporary music were Eivind Buene for the work 'Assymmetrical music' and Henrik Hellstenius for the work 'Ombra della sera'. The awards ceremony was held at TONO's premises on Thursday 1 December.
Earlier this fall, TONO awarded prizes in the categories of traditional music and music for other art forms. These were awarded to Jorun Marie Kvernberg and Sverre Indris Joner, respectively. The fifth and final prize will be awarded in the category of Church Music. The nominees have not yet been announced. Stay tuned.
The EDVARD Prize is an award that TONO awards to its members. The prize goes to the author of an outstanding work that has been premiered in the previous calendar year. Each prize is worth 40.000 kroner, as well as a copy of the EDVARD trophy, designed by Bruno Oldani. With this award, TONO hopes to contribute to increasing awareness of newly written Norwegian music and lyrics, and to focus on TONO's activities.
