Robert Eidevik has been awarded TONO's EDVARD Prize 2019 in the Lyrics category for the Hjerteslag album Nattseileren. – It means a lot to me to receive the prize for these lyrics, says the prize winner.

Robert Eidevik was awarded the EDVARD Prize during the second of Hjerteslag's two concerts at Håkonshallen in Bergen on Saturday evening. It was Emir Hindic from Sushiu x Kobe, who earlier this year received the EDVARD Prize in the Popular Music category, who presented the prize on behalf of TONO and the jury. The award was met with a standing ovation from a packed Håkonshallen.

– It means a lot to me to receive the award for these lyrics. I wrote about my life and the lyrics on Nattseileren were about things that weren't going so well in life at that time. I really appreciate that people actually like them, said Robert Eidevik after the award ceremony. From the stage, he also thanked the band and his other support staff.

The jury's reasoning

"Lyricist Robert Eidevik has proven himself through several Hjerteslag albums as a distinctive and drivingly skilled lyricist. He has a very good eye for young longing, romance and desire, without it ever becoming banal or tacky. With precision and originality, he often points towards something universally valid that can touch listeners of all ages. On Nattseileren we enter a dark Bergen universe after midnight. We are guided into something lost and strong-willed. Eidevik describes the depths, but often with a loving sidelong glance, and thus we never completely lose hope. He is unique in his descriptions of situations and feelings. A line like "I am the echo of your ascent" is one such, and it clearly shows how heartbreaking the lyrics can be.»

Will highlight the work of composers and lyricists

The EDVARD Prize has been awarded annually at TONO since 1998, and is awarded in five categories to composers and lyricists who have created musical works of particularly high quality in the previous year. A highly qualified professional jury selects the winners, who receive kr 50,000 as well as a trophy and a diploma, both designed by artist Magne Furuholmen.

– It is a central part of TONO's work to highlight that music has value, and that music creation is an important work. With the EDVARD Prize, we highlight some of the most beautiful music created in the previous year, and with it we want to both honor individual authors and create awareness about the important work that composers and lyricists do, says TONO's communications manager, Willy Martinsen.
