Helge Sunde is the winner of the 2013 Edvard Prize in the category "Open Class" for the album "Windfall". The album is "... a razor-sharp work full of positive energy", according to the jury. The prize was presented by TONO chairman Bendik Hofseth last night at the National Jazz Scene.
/ 15/08/2013 / codexComposer Helge Sunde is the winner of the "Open Class" category in this year's edition of the Edvard Prize, a prize sponsored by TONO, which has been awarded annually in various categories since 1998. The prize is awarded to Helge Sunde based on the album Windfall, recorded and released in 2012.
– I just have to admit that I was proud and overjoyed by this, but this is more than an award for an author, it is also an award for the collective Ensemble Denada, and the willingness to insist and stick with a composer over a long period. That in itself, and on top of that an award like this, is an enormous privilege, says Helge Sunde.
The Edvard Prize, named after Edvard Grieg, is a prize awarded by TONO to composers and songwriters for outstanding musical works. The prize is given to composers who have created musical works and lyrics of high artistic quality. With the prize, TONO wants to increase awareness of Norwegian composers and lyricists and increase people's understanding and knowledge of newly written Norwegian music. The winner's music or lyrics must have been premiered or published in the previous year. Emphasis is also placed on the composer's other production.
