Five Sami music creators have been nominated for the composer award at this year's Sami Music Awards. Here's what they think about the nomination.

TONO is one of the Sami Music Week and Sami Music Awards partners.
Five awards will be presented during the event, which aims to showcase the breadth of Sami music and elevate those who work with Sami musical expressions to a high artistic level. Winners will be chosen in the categories Open class, Tradition bearer, Young Artist, Urbic og Composer.
The Composers' Award will be presented by TONO's chairman Jørgen Karlstrøm during the NRK broadcast. We asked the five nominees in the category what the nomination means to them.

– Any recording or compositional work requires a lot from the composer: time, trial and error, ups and downs, discipline and maturation. When the final result is well received or is nominated for an award, it is very gratifying. It is especially honorable to be nominated by one's own people.
- As a composer and producer, you often sit backstage and enjoy yourself without being seen for the work you do. So just being nominated is really fun.
- I am incredibly grateful for this nomination. Sami music life is rich, and I am proud to add a nuance to this whole. These days there is little touring so there is a lot of time for scores, commissions and studio work. The fact that my music is being highlighted in this way therefore means a lot to me.
- Always great to be seen and nominated for awards, so thank you for the nomination and at the same time happy to be able to work on making music despite Corona and the closure of concert stages. 2020 was a year where I composed music for two theater productions and am now in the process of completing a large symphonic project for Arctic Philharmonic and Sámi Našunálateáhter/The Sámi National Theater – Beaivváš.
