Among the TONO members who can take home awards from the Music Publishers Award 2025 are AURORA, Karpe, Delara, Ola Kvernberg and Dagny. The awards ceremony, which celebrates its 10th anniversary this year, will take place on March 12 at the Embassy in Oslo.
/ 23/01/2025 / Kristian DugstadThis year, the Music Publishers Award, the only one of its kind in Norway, celebrates its tenth anniversary. The award ceremony is organized by Music Publishers and honors Norwegian music publishers and their authors who are members of TONO, for their work and achievements in the past year.
The Music Publishers Association is one of three group associations in TONO. Together with NOPA and the Norwegian Composers' Association, they have permanent seats on TONO's board and various committees.
This year, awards will be presented in eight categories in addition to an honorary award. New this year are the categories Work of the Year – Small Ensemble og Work of the Year – Large EnsembleThe Music Publishers Award is also the only one of its kind that awards prizes in the categories Score of the year og Synchronization of the Year.
Haley Shea from Sloatface is one of the artists and songwriters who have made a name for themselves in recent years, and has, among other things, several Music Publishers Award nominations behind her. About this year's nomination she says the following:
It's a real honor to be nominated for Author of the Year – Popular Music at the Music Publisher Awards! I'm really looking forward to an evening where we'll celebrate and shine the spotlight on the authors and publishers who aren't always so good at bragging about all the great things they do, but who create and release music that colors our lives every day!
Other nominees include Fay Wildhagen, who has received great attention and rave reviews for the album Let's keep it in the family. (2024). She is nominated in the category Song of the Year popular music for the single "ohmygod", and says the following:
It's great to be nominated with a song that reminds me of everything that's fun about music. It came spontaneously, is playful, raw, and alive. It's great to not take life so seriously and just go with the flow.
The nominees for the Music Publishers Award represent the great breadth and quality found among Norwegian composers, producers and songwriters, and also reflect the work that music publishers do throughout the year to elevate both the music and the authors nationally and internationally.
Creators who can win awards in multiple categories include: Kristoffer Lo, Amanda Delara Nikman (delara), Monika Engeseth (Moyka) and Maja SK Ratkje.
Ratkje has won the Music Publisher's Award for Work of the Year. classical/contemporary music twice previously, and has several nominations under her belt. This year she is nominated for Author of the year classical/contemporary music og Work of the Year large ensembleShe states:
The Music Publishers Award is the one big important celebration of Norwegian composers, and it is therefore an extra great honor to be nominated. Being nominated for the Music Publishers Award with "A Whisper, or a Prayer, or a Song" in addition is incredibly great. It takes an insanely long time to write a large work for orchestra, and when it is finally put into play with a hundred fantastic musicians, it is like an explosion of emotions and colors.
