GEMA won over Suno

The German copyright society GEMA has won its lawsuit against Suno, a company that allows users to generate music with artificial intelligence. The ruling states that Suno has infringed copyright by using copyrighted music without a license.

Ari Bajgora, Oskar med K and Bibbebaby are among the Norwegian songwriters who experienced the greatest growth in TONO payouts in 2025. 

335 MILLION NOK TO NORWEGIAN MUSIC CREATORS

Norwegian songwriters, composers, lyricists and music publishers received NOK 335 million from TONO in 2025. In total, TONO paid out NOK 714,8 million to music creators at home and abroad.

TONO and the Norwegian Local Radio Association agree on a new agreement

TONO and the Norwegian Local Radio Association have agreed on a new agreement for the use of music in Norwegian local radio stations. The new model applies to all local radio stations in Norway, and means, among other things, that local radio stations no longer need to document listenership figures.

63 PERCENT OF YOUNG MUSICIANS FEAR AI

Artificial intelligence is perceived as an increasingly greater threat by Norwegian songwriters, composers and lyricists. 53 percent believe AI threatens their music-making business, compared to 38 percent two years ago. Fear of AI is greatest among those aged 15 to 29. 

Requires payment to artists

On Tuesday, the European Parliament took a clear stand for artists in their encounters with AI companies. With 460 votes in favor, 71 against and 88 abstentions, the Parliament now calls on the European Commission to propose new legislation to protect artists in the artificial intelligence market. 

Grocery store plays the country's best background music

(Oslo, November 10, 2025) REMA 1000 Korskirkekvartalet in Bergen city center has been named "Norway's best background music" by TONO. The victory will be celebrated with a free mini-concert in the store on Thursday, November 13 at 1:30 p.m. with Synne Sørgjerd.

TONO pays out NOK 206 million

On Monday, September 29, TONO will pay out NOK 206,2 million to licensees at home and abroad. The payment also marks the start of a new and more precise settlement model, which has now been implemented in most areas.

ICE to license Spotify and YouTube for TONO

TONO's music creators and music publishers can expect better terms and more frequent payments from services such as Spotify, Apple Music, Tiktok and YouTube and more after TONO has now entered into an agreement with the licensing company ICE. – The agreement is an expression of a conscious new direction for TONO, and marks an important shift for us, says TONO CEO Karl Vestli.
