12 Nordic albums are nominated for the award and will be judged by a jury consisting of international journalists and record company executives. Andres Lokko is the chairman of the jury.

Each Nordic country will nominate its current candidates for the award. After a selection process with breadth and depth in the individual country's music industry, representatives from all countries will come to Oslo with ten albums each to decide which 12 albums will be nominated for the Nordic Music Prize.
