TONO spends a lot of time and energy reaching out to both users og creators of music to increase understanding of copyright, why public music use requires a TONO permit and what TONO means for composers, lyricists and their music publishers.
– We have now created a new brochure aimed particularly at young music creators who may not yet have had time to register with us. Because even though we are growing by around 1500 each year, and are approaching 30,000 TONO members in total, there is naturally room for more. Anyone who writes music that is performed publicly can become a TONO member, and thus could have income that they would otherwise have missed out on, says communications manager Willy Martinsen.
Help from Silje Halstensen
To make TONO more understandable, we often ask members for help in contributing to advertisements, articles, video productions and other initiatives. Previously, Odd Nordstoga, Tønes, OnklP, Bjørn Eidsvåg and many more have contributed in various ways. This time we are very grateful that our member Silje Halstensen from Bendik (Facebook link, opens in new window) has allowed us to borrow a picture of her and a quote that helps to get the message across.
– It is largely thanks to TONO that I get to work on what I am passionate about – namely making music, she says in the brochure.
