Was your music played in concert in the US in 2022?

If you, or other artists and musicians, performed your works in concert in the United States in 2022, you can now apply to be paid for it via the ASCAP OnStage scheme. The deadline is May 22.

If you can document that your musical works were performed in concert in the United States during the period January 1, 2022 to December 31, 2022, you can now apply to receive compensation for it from TONO's American sister society ASCAP.

The reason you need to apply for this is because ASCAP primarily bases its concert billings on excerpts of the concerts that are held, and many rights holders therefore experience not being paid. The ASCAP OnStage scheme compensates for this by allowing authors to disseminate concert reports themselves.

To be eligible to receive payment for this from ASCAP, you must: download, save and fill out this form. Be sure to give the file a clear name. Return the document to wenche.gjestvang@tono.noTONO forwards the information to ASCAP.

All applications must be submitted to TONO by May 22nd.

To avoid rejection of your application, it is essential to follow the instructions carefully. When reporting works in the form, you should enter one work per row. If several of your works have been performed at the same concert, you must create a separate row for each work and provide the work ID and title. You must fill in at least one of the three work identification fields for each reported work. If your work has an ISWC number, you should use this. If not, you can use a work number from TONO, which is available under work details in My TONO. If you need help, you can contact Member Services at medlem@tono.no or 22 05 72 80. Remember that the CAE number is the same as the IPI number, and you can find this on your profile page in My TONO.

ASCAP has three application categories

  1. Live Pop Performances for OnStage

This applies to live performances of pop music that are not listed under point 3 or fall under point 2. If you wish to apply for payment for such concerts, you must follow these guidelines: the application must be submitted to TONO by May 22, 2022, and is only valid for concerts that took place in 2022. Download the OnStage Claim template and complete all required fields. Missing information in your application may result in a denial or delay in processing your payment. All claims from collaborators, such as co-authors, must be included in one file. It is not permitted to submit individual files for each co-author to ASCAP.

Here is a list of the fields you MUST fill in:

Download this form to your own computer, fill it out and then email the completed copy to wenche.gjestvang@tono.no  by the end of May 22.

  1. Symphonic, Recital, and Educational Performances

  1. Live Pop Performances - Top 300 Tours and Venues

This includes the largest tours and concert venues, and specifically concerns the following 15 stages:
