– It is crucial to see the individuals behind the TONO numbers

Norwegian concert organizers' TONO payments to composers and lyricists account for only 2,6 percent of the total Norwegian concert economy. These are among the findings of a new report prepared by Oslo Economics on behalf of TONO.

TONO had NOK 3.112 million in concert revenue in 2023. This represents approximately 12 percent of TONO's total revenue of NOK 997,9 million.

Compared to the total concert revenues in Norway, which according to the Directorate of Culture's "Art in Numbers" report in 2022 was just under 4,422 million kroner. Of this, TONO's concert revenues in the same year only accounted for 2,6 percent,

Nora Austad Sværen from Oslo Economics is a guest on a new episode of TONO's podcast, Musikkskaperne. She talks about the main findings of the report. TONO's Communications Director, Willy Martinsen, explains the background to the report and what the findings tell us.

– 112 million kroner in concert revenue in 2023 is a lot of money, but it will be distributed among an awful lot of people. So going down to the individual level, and seeing what each individual earns, is absolutely crucial to understanding TONO figures, says Willy Martinsen, communications director at TONO.
