/ 07/04/2014 / codexTONO has sister societies around the world that, through our reciprocity agreement, will ensure that performances are paid to our members when works are performed in their territory.
The companies have different distribution rules and practices. Many companies settle for all concerts where remuneration has been collected and received. Other companies instead carry out a form of "sampling", which means that the received remuneration is settled for a selection of reported concert performances. The same often applies to the broadcasting area, where a statistical selection of reports is often used, often this is a certain number of weeks/year, which is supposed to represent the performed repertoire for the entire year. In order to receive settlement in such cases, your work must be included in this selection.
How quickly TONO receives payments from the various sister societies varies. Several companies pay quarterly, but there are still a number of companies that only pay 1-2 times per year.
TONO's goal is to pay out settlements from abroad as quickly as possible to our licensees. We settle money from abroad four times a year. However, different countries are settled each time, so it is not possible to say in advance which country/period will be settled when.
Because of this, it is necessary to calculate a longer time from the time the transfer took place abroad until the settlement can be paid out from TONO. The transfer itself must first be processed in the relevant sister society before it is forwarded to TONO for local processing.
When it comes to reporting performances abroad, the same model is practiced here as in Norway. You do not need to report performances of your works on radio/TV, but if you have played concerts abroad, it would be nice if you reported them to us.
Since several of our sister societies require faster reporting, we recommend that our members report foreign concerts as quickly as possible.
You can report concerts you have had abroad on MY TONO in the same way as concerts in Norway. Make sure to fill in as complete information as possible so that we can follow up with the relevant company.
