As a choir conductor from the early 1980s, and as artistic director of the Norwegian Soloists Choir from 1990, more than one generation of Norwegian composers has had a co-conspirator in her. Newly written Norwegian music has been brought to the fore through countless commissions and premieres with Grete Pedersen as artistic director. Over several decades, she has been at the forefront of creating an understanding of the importance of living composers being allowed to work on their artistry, and that this must be a continuous process. This commitment makes her a representative of a culture and an insight that is absolutely crucial for a Norwegian, creative art music tradition to be and to be allowed to live, both in the present and into the future.
