The jury's reasoning

Vaular writes rap/hip-hop. He doesn't like easy rhymes. A true poet in a genre where the framework is tight and the rhymes come faster than in baroque hymn verse. It's easy to slip away, lean on the rhythms, riffs and rhyme dictionary. He doesn't do that. Vaular uses all his strong musicality to say something that is experienced as important, something that burns, dances, breathes. He challenges himself, us, and the genre itself. He pushes the boundaries. Like the beat poets. Like the lyricist Edvard Munch. He doesn't make it easy for himself. That may be exactly what makes it easy for the EDVARD jury to give the Text Prize for 2012 to Lars Vaular.
