TONO receives reports directly from the radio and TV channels. So you don't need to report this to us yourself.

Norwegian broadcasting includes all of NRK's national and regional channels on radio and TV, TV Norge, as well as the TV2 channels TV2, TV2 Zebra, TV2 Livsstil, TV2 Nyhetskanalen and TV2's sports channels.  It is also settled for other Norwegian radio channels, such as P4, Radio Norge and a number of local radio channels. Performances on radio and TV in Norway are billed four times a year: in March, June, September and December.

Settlement rules

For each performance, the musical work receives a number of points. The calculation of points is based on the channel that broadcasts the musical work. The channels are divided into main areas with different points per minute.

A distribution sum is calculated per broadcaster. Distribution between the channels is based on a two-part principle of making available (broadcasting) on the one hand and listening/viewing (reception). Making available counts 30% and listening/viewing counts 70%.

The calculation of the settlement amount specified below applies to all types of performances, with the exception of channel vignettes/trailers/advertisements. Points for such use are half of standard performances.

  1. First, the number of points is calculated:
Running time × Number of performances × Protected portion of the work
    = Points
  1. The amount is then calculated:
    Points × Points value
    = Payout

Example:

180 seconds × 1 performance × 100% protected works
= 180 points

180 points × 2 (point value)
= 360 kr

Radio and TV billing from abroad

Other TV channels (e.g. TV3, VIASAT, etc.) are billed via our British sister society, PRS For Music. Any billing from these channels will therefore come through an international billing.

Billing for broadcasting abroad depends on our sister societies billing the relevant area.
