/ 31/03/2014 / codexSusanne Sundfør is still a young artist, but she has created an album that is as heavy and delicate as only a very mature and experienced artist can at best commit. Critics have already pointed out that she is a skilled singer with an almost otherworldly voice, but it is as a composer that Susanne Sundfør receives the Edvard Prize. With her album The Brothel, Susanne Sundfør has impressed and moved not only the Edvard Prize jury, but a whole corps of critics and music buyers in Norway and abroad. Although it is natural to pay tribute to the epic title track "The Brothel", the jury has chosen to give her the prize for the entire album. The compositions complement each other and show her talent in a wide range, but the album is experienced as a necessary whole. Here, both the dark, adventurous and the painful, bright are present. The compositions are both dramatic and beautiful, they create a kind of hypermodern seriousness.
The jury will also praise how the music supports the lyrics, giving them greater depth and nuance. It is the jury's view that we are dealing with an exceptionally gifted composer who deserves the Edvard Prize already for his third album.
