Gabrielle Leithaug has delivered an impressive string of hits since her debut album "Mildt Sagt" in 2011. On the album "Nattergal" she continues her work within the genre she herself describes as "Explosive pop" and solidifies her position as a prominent songwriter.
Gabrielle sings in dialect, and the interplay between bombastic lyrics and catchy melodies works very well. Repetitions and rhymes give the impression that the lyrics belong in the rap genre, but here it is done consistently over infectious and good melodies. Everywhere you find intelligent, rhythmic emphases and shifts, without it feeling intrusive. Direct, honest, passionate, and always with enormous energy. Heartbreak, hopeless relationships and other themes, which preferably appear late in the lonely hours of the night, are conveyed over hard-hitting productions with roots in electronica and rock.
The album "Nattergal" is the result of a fruitful collaboration with songwriters Lars Kåre Hustoft, Thomas Bratfoss Eriksen and Joachim Alte, and the jury therefore wishes to highlight them as part of Gabrielle's creative team. Nevertheless; Gabrielle's musical expression and vision come through so crystal clear and unified that there is no doubt who is the boss.
When the jury "#sitterher" and is about to choose the popular composer of the year in 2014 – Gabrielle – "Then it's easy to think of you".
