The jury's reasoning

This year's TONO Prize is awarded to Leif A. Dramstad for his significant contribution to the dissemination of Norwegian musical works. Through his tireless work in publishing contemporary music in all genres, he has spread Norwegian works not only to all corners of Norway, but to large parts of the world. Leif A. Dramstad is a towering figure in the music publishing industry. Throughout his 50 years at Norsk Musikforlag A/S, with the last 30 years as publishing director, he has ensured that around 200 works are published each year. His publishing work can be called a formidable life's work, as he stands as a mediator of the foremost works created by our Norwegian composers and lyricists. These represent examples of major works that are unlikely to achieve "break even" for many years to come. Despite the economic downturn in the music publishing industry in general, Leif A. Dramstad has chosen to keep his guns pointed and trust in the intrinsic value of music, above short-term gain. With the greatest respect for his lifelong commitment to Norwegian music and lyrics, we would like to honor Leif A. Dramstad with TONO's Media Prize.
